Save the Date: This Saturday and Sunday, Water Night for String Orchestra in Columbus, Ohio
November 13, 2009If you happen to be in the Columbus area this weekend, may I highly recommend hearing the excellent ProMusica Chamber Orchestra. They’ll be led by their resident Maestro Dr. Timothy Russel in a lovely and wide-ranging program. Here’s the lineup:
Vivaldi – Concerto for Flute in D Major, “The Goldfinch”
Whitacre – Water Night for Strings
Casals – Song for the Birds
Rogers – Iridescent Prairies (World Premiere)
Beethoven – Symphony No. 6 in F Major, “Pastoral”
Pretty cool program, and I’m thrilled that they’ve chosen Water Night. Wish wish wish I could be there.
If any of you happen to hear the concert, please let me know how it goes, and be sure to tell the players (and the maestro) that I send my regards.
Here’s a re-post of Water Night for Strings:

FINALLY! An Ohio concert!
I might be able to go on Sunday, but Saturday I’m going to go see the Bands of America Grand National Championships Semi Finals in Indianapolis (which I have to say is quite exciting since I’ve never seen a marching band perform). But I am so excited about this and the lineup looks really good (especially Water Night
)!
p.s. – I’m performing the Vivaldi flute concerto for a student recital in December.
OMGOMGOMGOMG. They’re performing WATER NIGHT?!?! YES!
Love love love string orchestra… Why can’t Alabama be further ahead in the arts? LOL
Just got home from the ProMusica concert. Water Night was phenomenal – a truly amazing work beautifully performed. I noticed that the concert was recorded for playback on WOSU radio in Columbus, the date and time unknown. I will be looking to purchase the choral performance of water music, and hope to see it live!
The string orchestra version is definitely a favorite. It reminds me of Barber’s “Adagio for Strings.” I can’t find any recordings of this version of “Water Night,” though…
is it possible to buy the score for strings for water night?
I agree with Jeremy about it sounding like Adagio for Strings – it just has the same feeling to it. Too bad I couldn’t go. I’m sure it was amazing!
